This induction course welcomes you to the Westmead Hospital Cardiology Service and hopes your time with us will be professionally satisfying. In order to assist with this process, we have designed a program which is flexible to accommodate to your prior knowledge, experience and skill. It will also accommodate areas you need to develop, whilst ensuring the needs of the service and patients we care for can still be met. The program incorporates a generic orientation period followed by placement on one of the Cardiology Career Pathways dependant on your designation. The Career Pathways are designed to assist with goal setting and the time framing of skill acquisition by yourself, with support from your preceptor, your NUM and the Cardiology Nursing Education team.

The aim of this program is for participants to gain an understanding of the role of the Preceptor and to develop knowledge and skills they can apply when working with students, new staff members and GradStart/ MidStart staff members.
The Preceptor Program consists of two parts:
- CSK14701 Preceptor Program Part 1 (Moodle)
- CSK14590 Preceptor Program Part 2 (2 hour Face to Face or Virtual)

1. Explain the roles and responsibilities of a preceptor.
2. Competently undertake the role of a preceptor in the workplace.

Blended online course outlining the procedural requirements for the insertion of an intravenous cannula.
