Brief course description:   This site is a central repository for the upskilling of BMDH Perioperative Services - nurses, surgeons, anaesthetist and ancillary staff in the use of Alcohol Based Skin Preparation. It will include learning packages, a quiz, learning resources on Alcohol Based Skin Preparation.

This course will provide an introduction to caring for renal patients including renal anatomy and physiology, causes of renal failure, renal replacement therapy, renal medications and nursing management.

Course Description: This educator training course aims to assist new educators in adjusting to the unique role of a Childbirth Educator. It consists of 24 modules covering:

• Pregnancy
• Birth
• Postnatal Period and Parenting
• Breastfeeding
• Birth and Parenting Education
• Adult Learning
• Facilitation Skills
• Acupressure
• Program design
• Program implementation
• Program Evaluation
• As part of this course, we require the course participants to complete specific HETI modules where they are available. 
• This course will take a minimum of 12 months to complete.

This induction course welcomes you to the Westmead Hospital Cardiology Service and hopes your time with us will be professionally satisfying.  In order to assist with this process, we have designed a program which is flexible to accommodate to your prior knowledge, experience and skill.  It will also accommodate areas you need to develop, whilst ensuring the needs of the service and patients we care for can still be met.  The  program incorporates a generic orientation period followed by placement on one of the Cardiology Career Pathways dependant on your designation.  The Career Pathways  are designed to assist with goal setting and the time framing of skill acquisition by yourself, with support from your preceptor, your NUM and the Cardiology Nursing Education team.

Orientation Manual

The aim of this program is for participants to gain an understanding of the role of the Preceptor and to develop knowledge and skills they can apply when working with students, new staff members and GradStart/ MidStart staff members. 

The Preceptor Program consists of two parts:

• CSK14701 Preceptor Program Part 1 (Moodle) 
• CSK14590 Preceptor Program Part 2 (2 hour Face to Face or Virtual)  

Learning outcomes:

1.  Explain the roles and responsibilities of a preceptor.

2.  Competently undertake the role of a preceptor in the workplace.

3.  Identify and utilise resources to support the preceptor role.

On completion of the learning package, participants will be able to: 

• Describe the macroscopic structures of the kidney
• Describe the structures of the urinary system and the male reproductive system
• Identify the ranges of common blood results
• Define common and nephrology terms
• Describe nursing care and strategies for a patient with renal colic and a patient with bladder outlet obstruction, including pain management

Blended online course outlining the procedural requirements for the insertion of an intravenous cannula.

Learning outcomes:

• Discuss basic anatomy and physiology fundamentals associated with PIVC
• Demonstrate competence in the insertion, management and removal of PIVC
• Outline potential complications associated with PIVC and list potential interventions which could be implemented to prevent or manage complications
• Comply with NSW Health documentary requirements associated with the insertion and management of PIVC

This eLearning program is a prerequisite for the face-to-face WSLHD Safe Procedural Sedation Training Workshop and an essential requirement in completing the Safe Procedural Sedation Training Program
